“Do you need an invoice?” – This question was not even asked at two companies on the Carinthian lakes that were checked by the financial police at the end of August as part of a key operation. In general, the majority of companies in the hospitality and hotel industry did not present a praiseworthy picture.
Violations of cash register obligations, illegal employment, violations of the Working Hours Act and illegal employment of foreigners – 76 of the 110 inspected companies did not have a clean slate during a major operation by the financial police at the Carinthian lakes from August 20 to 29.
Commitment to “fair taxpayers”
“The financial police are working intensively against undeclared work, tax fraud and violations of tax regulations,” emphasizes Finance Minister Magnus Brunner. “These measures benefit all honest taxpayers, strengthen the reputation of our place of business and support in particular the companies that comply with the rules.”
Nearly 100 financial police officers went through Carinthia and checked the restaurants and hotels. In 50 cases, officials were confronted with violations in the labor sector – due to working hours and illegal employment. There were another 26 offenders in the cash register area.
The companies are now facing criminal proceedings under the Financial Crimes Act and have also been charged a tax debt of 142,573 euros. Two companies that did not use a cash register at all were particularly lax on this issue. All companies caught are now threatened with high fines.
