Heavy rainfall caused the water level at Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland to rise by 14 cm. The lake is currently still eight centimetres below the long-term average.
At least for Lake Neusiedl, the storms of the past few days have had a positive impact. Due to the heavy rainfall, the water level has risen by about 14 centimeters and is now 115.32 meters above the Adriatic Sea.
Filled with varnishes
Tributaries like the Wulka are also carrying more water. According to Christian Sailer, head of the state’s main water management department, the salt varnishes are also full – and could remain so for some time due to the higher groundwater levels.
Eight centimeters missing
The lake is currently three inches below the long-term average for this time of year, but Sailer is confident that further increases will follow, at least until spring.
