Tesla boss Elon Musk’s American space company SpaceX wants to carry out five unmanned missions to Mars with his spaceship Starship in the next two years. The CEO announced this on his social media platform X on Sunday.
The schedule for manned missions depends on the success of the unmanned flights and could occur in four years if landings are successful.
Musk hopes for next ‘transfer period’
Should any difficulties arise, the crewed missions would be delayed for another two years. Earlier this month, Musk said the first flights to Mars would begin in two years, “when the next Earth-Mars transfer window opens.”
SpaceX broke through in June with the successful test flight of a Starship prototype around the world. Despite this success, the American space agency NASA recently postponed the first manned moon landing with Starship until September 2026.
Musk, known for his ever-changing schedules, wants to develop Starship, a reliable spacecraft that will carry people and cargo to the moon and later to Mars.
