The Second Vice President and Advisor for Economy, Labor and Employment of the Basque Government, Michael Torreshas found the proposal of a “flexible” sick leave “interesting”, which allows partial work, but with “complete legal certainty”.

In an interview for the program “Boulevard” on Radio Euskadi, Torres referred to the announcement of the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration of the Spanish government, Elma Saiz, to tackle a reform of temporary disability and sick leave. in some cases more flexibility allowing people to return to work.

Torres believes it is something “new”, similar to flexible retirement, allowing retirement to be compatible with working a range of hours.

According to him, it is a measure that “must be studied at the table of Social Dialogue at state level.” In any case, he believes that this should be done with complete legal certainty “so that people have the right to be on sick leave if a doctor decides so.” At the same time, he sees it possible for employees who want to enter the labor market to work a few hours and make this compatible with the illness they have, “but always with maximum legal security for the employee.”

“The most important thing is to maintain the legal security of the employee on sick leave and never harm their rights,” he stressed.
