“I can sleep when I’m dead”: If you also share the same opinion, you should reconsider your opinion. Because sleep, and especially good sleep, is often underestimated – and in the worst case, ironically, this is exactly what affects your life expectancy. We took a closer look at the whole topic with Salzburg sleep researcher Kerstin Hödlmoser as part of the new ÖAW project “FÄKT!”.
Sleep is not just a side story that just has to happen: sleep is important. This shows that we spend about a third of our lives sleeping. And if you don’t sleep enough, you may have already noticed how your arousal threshold drops in the evening: “Healthy sleep is not only important for physical recovery and regeneration, but also for emotional and psychological health,” says psychologist and psychotherapist Kerstin Hödlmoser from the University of Salzburg.
