Just two hours after buying a plane, doctor Thomas Unden from Vienna crashed his machine in a forest near the G7 Schlosshotel Elmau (Bavaria).
“It was luck in misfortune, the forest slowed us down,” the Viennese doctor summed up the crash, which he survived with his son in the mountain forest near Elmau Castle (near Garmisch-Partenkirchen), in a tz interview.
The 59-year-old doctor had bought the ultralight aircraft in Switzerland just two hours earlier.
Avoid hitting rocks with maneuvers
But on the first flight to Carinthia, dark clouds gathered and the Viennese wanted to avoid Bavaria. The plane encountered turbulence. Now the experienced pilot saw only one way out: an emergency landing!
Unden seems composed
After his son Gregor pulled the emergency parachute, the Viennese managed to avoid a collision in the rocky area with clever maneuvers. “During the crash, we only noticed a slight bump,” Unden said relatively calmly. After surviving four crashes, two capsizes and beating cancer, he was no longer sensitive, the double doctor even joked in an interview.
Known as the “Anger Doctor”
He wasn’t kidding, though, when he made headlines in 2016 for refusing to treat refugees in his practice in Floridsdorf as a “ange doctor” “because he didn’t understand them”. He was even banned from work for a short time. With a feisty appearance in the ATV series “The Business with Love”, he also got into trouble in the medical association.
However, the Viennese doctor is also characterized by positive commands. After the fall of Libyan dictator Gadafi in 2012, “Krone” reporter Christoph Matzl accompanied him to Tripoli with the Association and Society for Austro-Arab Relations: at that time, DDr. Anden professionally and lovingly war handicapped and sick children.
