LPD Upper Austria: According to current investigation, the perpetrator was armed with a long firearm and a pistol at the time of the crime. Based on the investigation, we currently believe that the man may have two long guns and a pistol.

How many police officers are on duty and how much does it cost?
Hundreds of police officers were on site for three days. These include: Cobra task force, rapid intervention group (SIG), standby unit, operational unit, regular forces, police dog unit, various drones, Flir (police helicopter) and other special forces. The number of men in the operational staff is determined daily.
The issue of costs does not arise for us, since security police operations (threat investigation, threat prevention) are among the basic tasks of the federal police. That is why there is special equipment and training, but also special forces, such as the EKO Cobra. An operation like this demands a lot from the police as an organization, but also from every resident. On the other hand, it is also an example of how efficiently, professionally and collegially the various disciplines within the police family work together: from the patrol officer to the helicopter pilot to the Cobra special forces.

How large is the searched area?
The area searched is very large and covers large areas – mainly in forest areas, some of which are very steep, making the search more difficult due to the still dangerous location.

How long can the search pressure be maintained at this level?
As long as it is necessary – we are currently following up on all leads and looking specifically at places where the fugitive may be located or may have a connection or has had a connection in the past. We would like to thank the population again for the many tips and cooperation and ask for continued support, but also for caution if you have an idea.

Which federal states are currently in use and to what extent – ​​which ones are still to come?
More than 200 colleagues currently work locally – also in the federal states. Armed forces from neighboring states provide support here. In addition, the State Criminal Investigation Department is working at full speed and the investigation into the fugitive is ongoing.

Personal protection for the 50 people potentially at risk?
For tactical reasons we cannot and will not release any information about this – to protect the people affected!
Of course we protect the vulnerable people who also want this! The purpose of our personal protection is to prevent or ward off physical dangers and attacks against the person being protected. Personal police protection is more than the physical presence of bodyguards around the person being protected. There is a wide catalog of measures that are applied individually, for example the protection of property. Risk and situation assessments are always made individually.

Are there any special protective measures planned for All Saints’ Day?
Like every year, security police measures will take place again this year on All Saints’ Day – in this specific case, troops have already been deployed for that purpose anyway.

The Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an EU arrest warrant yesterday. The suspect is listed in the Schengen Information System as wanted throughout the Schengen area.
