A smuggler was stopped by a roadblock at the border with Hungary

A smuggler had already been spotted in Hungary during his illegal tour. There the police gave chase, the smuggler, behind the wheel of a fully occupied car, pressed the accelerator and raced past the checkpoint at the St. Margarethen border crossing, not on the right, but on the left. Austrian officials were called in. However, the criminal did not get far on red-white-red national territory.

The police set up a roadblock one kilometer after the border post. The tractor swerved into a field and tried to evade capture across the country. He stopped in the middle of the area, jumped out of the car and ran away. The perpetrator went into hiding in a nearby forest. Despite a massive search, he could not be caught. The suspected accomplice of a widespread smuggling gang was still considered a fugitive at the start of the investigation. The refugees who were dragged into the car were taken to a care center to be registered.

The hunt for the escaped perpetrator spread widely. After breaching the border and raising the alarm, a large contingent of officers from the cross-border Operation Fox joined the police operation. The special unit swarmed with several cars. The work of the specialists did not go unnoticed. Every now and then, local residents took out their mobile phones and recorded the fast missions of the “Füchse” on video.

False alarm about killer: video caused confusion
Unusual recordings quickly made the rounds on the Internet – and caused a stir. It was wrongly assumed that the operation targeted the wanted murderer from Mühlviertel (Upper Austria), who allegedly shot two people on Monday. This suspect was only later found dead in a forest.
