An initially unknown thief was after the money of sleeping train passengers. The perpetrator stole several thousand euros in the states of Tyrol, Salzburg and Styria. One day, when he was caught by a conductor, he pulled the emergency brake and fled. Now the Romanian suspect has been arrested.
Mysterious thefts occurred again and again in October in the three states. The approach of the initially unknown perpetrator was always the same. While his victims were sleeping on the train, he grabbed their wallets. The total damage: approximately 3,500 euros.
Caught red-handed by conductor
In one of these raids, the perpetrator was caught red-handed by the train conductor – near Wörgl in Tyrol. “The man then activated the emergency brakes. After the train stopped, he fled on foot,” police said. The train conductor gave chase and the suspect threw a rock at him.
Speaking of the suspect: this is a 41-year-old Romanian. Initially he was able to go into hiding. But now – after intensive investigation – the handcuffs clicked on him in the city of Salzburg.
Admitted to prison
The suspected thief was taken to Salzburg prison. A whole series of advertisements follows. Further investigations are underway.
