Elon Musk, tech billionaire and supporter of Donald Trump, gave his two cents on the German government crisis on Thursday. “Olaf is a fool,” he wrote in German on his platform X (formerly Twitter).
Musk responded to a message saying that the “socialist government” in Germany had collapsed. He later confirmed that he did indeed mean Chancellor Olaf Scholz, but did not comment on why he thinks Scholz is a fool.
Musk, the richest person in the world, firmly supports the political positions of the American right and has supported Donald Trump’s election campaign in recent months. With his return to the White House, Musk will likely gain more influence over the US government.
Trump promised to task Musk with cutting U.S. government spending. This means that two companies led by Musk – electric car maker Tesla and space company SpaceX – could benefit from US government spending in the future.
Tesla is a major investor in Germany with its European car factory in Grünheide near Berlin.
