Prices in Tyrol – Put to the test: how much should a schnitzel cost?

Date:

A schnitzel please – meal! The “Tiroler Krone” calculated the average price for the whole of Tyrol and the nine districts. When it comes to the individual prices, the difference of eight euros is particularly striking. Where is the pain threshold?

Just like the Vienna Philharmonic and the Salzburger Mozartkugeln, it is part of the culture in Austria: the schnitzel. The “Krone” looked at the price of the pork schnitzel – with a side dish.

And so we went about it: we found three pubs in each of the nine districts and browsed the menu. The average price in the respective district and for the entire Tyrol was calculated.

Prices are between 12.50 and 20.90 euros
The result: everyone who goes to the inn can pay about 17 euros. A look at the neighborhoods shows that the schnitzel in Kufstein is still the cheapest with an average of 14.80 euros. Visitors to the pubs in the Kitzbühel district (18.75 euros) and Innsbruck have to pay deep. The average price there is 18.60 euros.

A quick word about the “outliers”: the “Krone” found the cheapest pork schnitzel for 12.50 euros each in the districts of Reutte and Innsbruck-Land. But we also discovered the most expensive one in Reutte. A landlord charges as much as 20.90 euros for this.

“We had to take action over the past two years”
The “Krone” asked Alois Rainer, himself a landlord in the Zillertal and chairman of the tourism and leisure sector at the Chamber of Commerce, about these figures. He says that “the schnitzel is not particularly expensive at around 17 euros. “If you consider the expensive shopping cart and the exorbitant electricity and gas costs, this should not be surprising.”

In addition, staff wages have increased significantly. “There were no price adjustments in all previous years. Over the past two years, landlords have had to take action, because they also have to do business.”

Rainer explains the difference of eight euros for the schnitzel as follows: “Not every company has the same costs. And some innkeepers rely on a dish that they offer quite cheaply, but the others are more expensive.”

demands on politics
The chairman cannot say where the pain threshold lies when it comes to the price of the schnitzel. “Unfortunately, everything is becoming more and more expensive.” Finally, Rainer calls on politicians to “reduce bureaucracy and simplify requirements. Then we can calculate the prices more easily.”
