After a Friday characterized by wintry conditions, it will become milder in the coming days. The sun and the Föhn wind dominate, especially on Sunday. It will remain mainly sunny until Tuesday with fog in some places. Rain showers will then move across the entire country, Geosphere Austria reports.
The dense overnight clouds will slowly lift on Friday morning and the last snow showers will also temporarily disappear in the west. In the afternoon it will be sunny in large parts of the country, only in the west the clouds will linger and more snow showers will fall there.
The wind is blowing moderate to strong, and also strong in the Vienna basin and northern Burgenland, from west to northwest. The lowest temperatures are between minus seven and plus two degrees, the daily maximum temperatures reach minus two to plus four degrees.
Rising air pressure
Due to the rising air pressure, there will be fairly sunny weather in large parts of the country on Saturday. Only in the northern part of the Alps do dense clouds last longer and it occasionally snows. The wind often blows strong, sometimes strong to stormy in the north and east in exposed locations, usually from a westerly direction. Early temperatures will range from minus eight degrees in the south to plus one degree in the eastern parts of the country. The maximum daytime temperatures are between minus one and plus seven degrees.
Mild weather at average altitude
Under the influence of high pressure, the sunny impression will dominate on Sunday, even though high and medium cloud fields will noticeably dampen the sunshine. Morning fog fields usually last only a short time. In the valleys along the main Alpine ridge the wind is often gusty, but elsewhere it blows weak to moderate, usually from southerly directions. Early temperatures are between minus eight and minus one degrees, daily maximum temperatures reach three to twelve degrees, and it is mild, especially at mid-altitude, due to the foehn.
Rain expected on Tuesday
Some fog may remain in the typically foggy areas in the lowlands in the north and east until around noon on Monday. Furthermore, it is often a sunny day and high clouds are hardly a problem. Extensive cloud will move in from the west in the afternoon, but it will likely remain largely dry until the evening. The wind generally blows weak to moderate from different directions. Early temperatures range from minus six to plus four degrees. The daily maximums are between four and thirteen degrees, with it being mildest in the west.
The next fault zone will be announced from the northwest on Tuesday. Before that there are still some mist fields and high fog, especially above the lowlands, and there are the last rays of sunshine in the southeast. However, compact cloud and rain showers will spread quickly, with most precipitation expected in the northern Alps and later in the south of the country. The snow line drops to about 1200 meters above sea level in the evening on the north side of the Alps, and remains even higher in the south. The wind is blowing weakly, partly moderately from the west in the north. Early temperatures range from minus four to plus four degrees, daily maximum temperatures from five to eleven degrees.
