The Carinthian Sicher family from Tainach is not only known for their award-winning restaurant, they have also been producing char caviar there since 1994. Before the anniversary celebration, the “Krone” was given a look behind the scenes of the natural product, which had even led to a bomb threat in the US.
It all started in the 1970s, when father Alfons and mother Erna converted the family’s former sawmill in Tainach into an inn. “Our parents had already successfully farmed and sold trout before they finally came up with the idea of setting up their own trout farm and entering the catering industry in 1972,” say brothers Wolfgang and Michael Sicher, who grew up with the fish and experience everything first hand. This gave them a special appreciation and deep respect for animals from an early age.
