It is clearly a risky game: in the area of the municipality of Wolfsberg, several place name signs disappeared overnight. A number of local areas are no longer named. The police are investigating. The damage caused by the perpetrators now amounts to thousands of euros.
It actually makes you smile. “The fun stopped a long time ago, it really doesn’t have to be that way,” says Wolfsberg’s deputy mayor Alexander Radl, who has represented Mayor Hannes Primus for a long time. There has been a brazen thief in the municipality of Wolfsberg for a few months now – or are there several? – his mischief. Five place name signs have already been stolen this year.
“It’s not funny anymore, the damage to the municipality already amounts to several thousand euros,” says Radl. This year the local signs were stolen in St. Michael, Paildorf, Völking and twice at the entrance and exit to St. Margarethen. In recent days, the place names in Graben and Prebl have also been stolen overnight.
Tables are part of the city’s history
Radl: “We had to report it to the police again. We don’t like that, but it is clearly theft of community property. Stop it.” The planks need to be replaced every time. This results in valuable working time being lost for municipal employees.
But most importantly, the plaques are part of the city’s history. They are also important orientation aids for guests of the municipality. “Maybe it’s a game for the thieves – but we don’t find it funny anymore,” says the deputy mayor angrily.
The Wolfsberg police station is already investigating. “The investigations are ongoing, but unfortunately there are no concrete indications,” said the deputy commander of the Wolfsberg police station, Hermann Sorger. It is also not clear to the investigating officers what the motive of the unknown perpetrator is. The police crime group is investigating at full speed.
Sorger: “The perpetrators are apparently not aware that this is theft.” The question is also what the brazen thief, who apparently collects place name signs, plans to do with it. The Wolfsberg police are now even more present at night. Given the large area, this is a challenge for the police.
