According to auction experts, a Stradivarius violin that is about 300 years old could fetch between twelve and 18 million dollars (about 11.4 to 17 million euros) at an auction in New York. The instrument, made in 1714 by violin maker Antonio Stradivari, is expected to be auctioned in February.
The “Joachim-Ma Stradivarius” is one of the most important instruments in music history ever offered at auction, according to auction house Sotheby’s.
The violin was owned by musicians Joseph Joachim and Si-Hon Ma, among others. Most recently she used the New England Conservatory in the American metropolis of Boston to teach. The music institution wants to use the proceeds from the auction for student scholarships.
