Insults and outstretched middle fingers: what should have been a peaceful demonstration left a bitter aftertaste. Julia Schratz from the association “lilawohnt” talks about this and the bitter reality of many women. A social association that works for women affected by violence and has been doing so for 40 years.
“Kron”: What has changed in 40 years?
Julia Schratz: It all started as a small model project, but has now become a professional organization with 40 employees and a wide range of services. A lot has also changed substantively – such as what understanding we have of people affected by homelessness, what terms we use and what services we offer. The ‘Housing First Principle’ brought about a change: instead of “You have to prove yourself before you get an apartment”, it now says “First you need an apartment, the rest comes later.”
