Pope Francis celebrates his 88th birthday today – his twelfth as head of the Church. However, there are no special celebrations; the day started with morning mass. The first congratulations for the Argentinian have already been received, including from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni shared a photo with the Pope from the G7 summit in Puglia and praised him as an inspiration. “May his path continue to be illuminated by faith and sustained by hope,” Meloni wrote on social media.
Already in office since 2013
President Sergio Mattarella and Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri also joined in the birthday wishes.
Pope Francis, who has been in power since 2013, is increasingly suffering from health problems such as knee pain and a hip problem. That is why he is often in a wheelchair. He recently suffered a clearly visible bruise on his chin in an accident. However, the 88-year-old has ruled out a dismissal.
