“Significant defects” – Dubai chocolate: now there is a warning against consumption!

Date:

Dubai chocolate is trending. Now some imported samples in Germany have returned negative results in tests carried out by state food inspectors. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs in the state of Baden-Württemberg speaks of “fraud” and “health hazards”.

Baden-Württemberg’s Consumer Affairs Minister Peter Hauk (CDU) criticized that contaminants, dyes, allergens and foreign fat were found in eight of eight samples from the Chemical and Veterinary Research Agency (CVUA) in Stuttgart. However, the authority did not mention any product names or manufacturers.

Strange fat instead of chocolate
“The small number of samples is not yet a trend, but the results are very worrying,” Hauk said. Five samples from the United Arab Emirates contained foreign fat instead of real chocolate. “A clear case of consumer fraud,” the report said.

The samples were in any case not suitable for human consumption due to contamination caused by production. In the three samples from Turkey, the laboratory found undeclared sesame, which could be particularly dangerous for people with a sesame allergy.

Almost all samples used artificial colors to simulate a higher proportion of high-quality ingredients. Where it says ‘Dubai chocolate’, it must also contain real chocolate with quality ingredients without adulteration or contamination, the minister added.

Further tests planned
The results have led to Baden-Württemberg starting a special national program. The aim is to assess and investigate the nationwide supply of Dubai chocolate from third countries and the EU. Goods produced by small local manufacturers, confectioners and confectioners are also taken into account. In addition, samples of pistachio cream are collected from wholesalers.

During a random screening, high concentrations of fungal toxins, especially so-called aflatoxins, were found in a sample with pistachio filling, Hauk said. The suspicion that the maximum level of aflatoxin was exceeded was confirmed. Aflatoxins have a serious liver-damaging effect. The goods are blocked until the final results are determined. The first tests of pistachio creams from wholesalers for aflatoxins have so far been unremarkable.
