Plans for retaliation – Zelensky threatens air strikes on Russia

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has threatened further attacks on military facilities in Russia in retaliation for Russian airstrikes. “We will certainly continue to attack Russian military targets with drones and missiles,” he said in his evening video address from Kiev on Saturday.

Ukraine is increasingly using self-produced weapons. It goes against “exactly those military bases, the Russian military infrastructure that is used for this terror against our people,” Zelensky said. By terror he meant the recent Russian air raids. In Kiev, cleanup work had just been completed after a ballistic missile attack on Friday, the president said.

Cancer clinic in Kherson hit by rocket
On Saturday, a cancer clinic was hit in Kherson, in the south of the country. “Fortunately, there were no injuries: there were people in the shelter, patients and medical staff,” Zelensky said. But the Russian side knows exactly how important the special hospital is.

Over the past week, Russia has deployed more than 550 glide bombs, nearly 550 combat drones and more than 20 missiles of various types against Ukraine, Zelensky wrote on X (formerly Twitter; see post below).

His country has been resisting a large-scale Russian invasion for almost three years. In recent weeks, Ukraine has increased attacks on Russia using its own and Western weapons systems. Targets were usually military facilities, supply routes or industrial facilities.

Drone attack on Russian metropolis
During an attack on the megacity of Kazan, 1,100 kilometers away from Ukraine as the crow flies, Ukrainian drones also flew on inhabited high-rise buildings on Saturday. No information was given about possible military targets in the towers.
