On New Year’s Day, a German went for a walk on the Reintalersee in Tyrol, where others swim in the summer and skaters swim laps in the winter. It ended with a water rescue operation.
The incident took place on New Year’s Day around noon. In good weather, the German retiree (65) with his wife and a couple of friends were initially walking around the Reintalersee near Kramsch (Kufstein district).
Hit the back of his head on the ice
The two men then wanted to shorten the walk and decided to take the shortcut across the ice. The accident happened: for some unknown reason the man suddenly slipped and fell. He hit the back of his head on the ice and became unconscious.
Witnesses to the incident and the companion immediately alerted rescue services. The water rescue services “Mittleres Unterinntal” and Reith im Alpbachtal responded to rescue the accident victim from the ice.
Pulled to the coast on a sled
Fortunately, when emergency services arrived on the scene, the victim had already woken up from unconsciousness. The companion or witnesses took him to the shore on a sled. There, rescuers took over the man and took him to a hospital.
