They’ve been snowed in for days, but 23 guests at the Tan Hill Inn in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in northern England are making the best of their situation. They reconcile their ‘situation’ with beer, films, card games and dancing in their own disco. The six-person staff celebrates with us.
Located on a picturesque mountaintop, the Tan Hill Inn is considered the highest pub in England. But a trip for “a beer” ended in an involuntary stay of days.
The background: 23 walkers were caught in a snowstorm and fled to the pub on the famous Pennine Way walking route. They had gone on tour earlier despite a weather warning.
Now they are stuck there, but there is no clear “emergency situation”. Together with the pub’s six employees, the stranded people spend time watching films, playing cards, dancing, reading and building snowmen. For the sun-drenched Australian Paul it was even the first of his life, the pub revealed (see post below).
Guests do not have to spend the night on the ground. There are several rooms available for hikers.
The cafe, which has been shielded from the outside world several times due to huge amounts of fresh snow, stressed that they had stockpiled a month’s worth of supplies and also stocked up on two weeks’ worth of beer. The restaurant is located only 528 meters above sea level.
“Guests are in no hurry to leave until conditions here improve,” it said on Facebook. The beer flows “in sufficient quantities,” focus.de quotes. Photos of partying and dancing guests are regularly shared on the account (see above).
As long as there is no shortage of alcohol, the good mood is unlikely to change…
