On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a notice informing them that Title 42 would expire on May 23 because they no longer considered it necessary.

This regulation, which ousted nearly 1.7 million people in the last two years under the pretext of the pandemic, was enacted by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) and has been maintained by his successor, Joe Biden.

Hope and joy

After a six-month stay in Tijuana, a migrant mother from the Mexican state of Michoacანიn, who asked not to be identified for security reasons, told Efe that it was “a hope for us migrants as it is a way to change our lives.”

The woman, who has two children, shares that her stay in Tijuana during this period was “very difficult”, despite the support they had at the shelter where she is staying, especially because “this is not our home, this is not ours. Another mother in the family, who also requested anonymity for security reasons, told Efe that she felt “very pleased” about the cancellation of Title 42.

“I am happy that they are going to continue the shelter and thus give our children a future,” he said.
