Alarm already around the little ones: a large part of the migration, groups that are too large and a flagrant lack of staff make the daily job of elementary educators more difficult – the “crown” spoke to the affected ones.
Around the day of basic pedagogy – last Friday – the extremely challenging situation in many kindergartens in the country is again attracted.
“The best educational possibilities for children, good working conditions for employees and good compatibility for the parents must finally be the focus of the political decision -makers,” says Korinna Schumann, vice -president and women’s chairman of the ÖGB. No way to bypass more staff, as well as a national uniform training for assistants. This is accompanied by smaller group sizes and generally better working conditions to make the industry more attractive, being the demands of the trade union.
The requirements coincide with the daily stories of many basic teachers. “There are more and more children with special needs, communication due to lack of knowledge of German is difficult and violence is also a problem.
Focus on migration: 20 countries in a group
There are also missing rules of conduct from home, such as and thank you, ”complains about Edeltraud Mühlbauer. More supporting hands are urgently needed. And Sabine Fritzer also knows these daily problems: “I work in a house with a very high percentage of migration, which means that we have families from more than 20 different countries.”
Due to a lack of staff: “mistakes happen”
Astrid Anders also feels a more challenging daily working life. For them it is mainly the simultaneity, all tasks are urgent, this creates a pressure to make decisions that causes an inner crack in it. And there is a lack of staff. “Lack of staff, regardless of industry, always influences quality. If you can no longer give your actions the necessary attention and time, mistakes will happen and the needs remain unfulfilled, ”says her colleague Sabine Fritzer.
The group sizes are also critically viewed by the kindergarten teachers. “With the reduction of the group size to 20 children, we are on the right track. I hope we will achieve the goal in the coming years, “Sabine Fritzer says carefully optimistic.
Moreover, the salary is always a point point. Do you need an increase? “I want more salary and a uniform employer with a uniform framework,” says EdeltRAUD. Oliver Buchelt, in turn, sees it differently: “It is especially necessary for optimum framework conditions – not necessary with salary.”
And what about society as a whole? “Everyone is talking about elementary pedagogy and is no longer so easily overlooked. I think this development is good, it should definitely progress, “says Sabine.
If you listen to the educators’ reports, the future government will have their hands full.
