Raser destroys cars – car chases in Vienna: policeman dragged along

Date:

The police had a lot to do on the streets of Vienna overnight Saturday and Saturday: the officers had to give chase twice – once to stop a driver involved in an accident and once to stop an aggressive car to catch the driver who even dragged a police officer several meters and nearly ran over his foot. Both drivers were caught and arrested.

On the night of Saturday, police officers from the Josefstadt command of the municipal police in the Alsergrund district wanted to stop a car traveling at 103 km/h instead of the permitted 50 km/h on the Währinger Belt in the direction of the Währinger Belt around 4 a.m. from Dobling. The driver, a 32-year-old Austrian, lost control of the wheel on Heiligenstädter Straße and crashed into a guard rail. He then tried to flee on foot. However, the 32-year-old did not get far and was arrested. He did not have a valid driver’s license.

Routine Control Escalation
A few hours later a curious scene took place that later became dangerous at the intersection of Grünbergstrasse and Schönbrunnerstrasse in Meidling. There, officers from the Hufelandgasse Police Inspectorate were checking out a street performer around 1 p.m. when a man stopped in the middle of the intersection, left his car with the engine running and walked towards the officers.

Police officer dragged into escape attempt
The 26-year-old Austrian wanted to instruct the police that a check was not allowed. Because he had parked his vehicle in the middle of the intersection, the officers asked him to pull over and identify himself. The 26-year-old refused and got back into his vehicle. Just when one of the officers was standing between the open driver’s door and the body, the driver stepped on the gas, so that he was dragged along with the officers for several meters. The policeman managed to get out of his situation – although he was ‘lucky in disguise’, the broadcast said. The 26-year-old nearly ran over his foot.

Several officers are chasing the fugitive. His journey finally came to an end in the vicinity of Tivoligasse. During the arrest that followed, the 26-year-old defended himself vigorously, forcing the officers to use physical force. A small amount of hemp was found on him.
