“Ukraine Friend” – Boris Johnson Leaves: Cheers and Anger in Moscow

Date:

In his resignation speech on Thursday, outgoing Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised Britain would remain on the side of Ukraine. Together with the United States, his country is one of those states that has so far sent the most weapons to Kiev. But this announcement by the conservative politician does not diminish the jubilation in Moscow.

“Ukraine’s best friends are leaving. Victory is in danger!” the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, ex-president Dmitry Medvedev, wrote in the Telegram news service on Thursday. Johnson’s departure was the “legitimate result of British audacity and mediocre politics. Especially at an international level,” said the 56-year-old. Medvedev has also speculated about further layoffs in Europe: “We are waiting for news from Germany, Poland and the Baltics. However, the governments there are not shaking.

Kremlin spokesman: ‘He doesn’t like us and we don’t like him’
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov spoke of a serious crisis in Britain. “As for Mr Johnson himself, he doesn’t like us at all. And neither do we,” Peskov said, according to the Interfax bureau. At the same time, he expressed hope that “more professional people” who also understood the need for dialogue would eventually come to power in Britain. “But at the moment you can hardly count on it.”

Meanwhile, it is completely unclear who is following Johnson. According to reports, the election of the new prime minister and leader of the conservative Tories could last until the autumn. There are plenty of candidates, a favorite has not yet come out.
