Room of Agriculture Josef Moosbrugger calls for a more consistent procedure for älplers and hunters in terms of cattle TB, including regulatory gate to kill the Red Deer.
The number of TB cases in cattle is more high in Vorarlberg than ever. Several farms had to be closed, countless animals could be agreed. A farmer lost more than 100 cattle in one diving – a tragedy. No wonder that a few weeks before the start of the Alpine season are big worries about the farmers – the farm animals in the mountains finally come into contact with Red Deer and can be infected with TB.
At the last general meeting of the Chamber of Agriculture, President Josef Moosbrugger appealed to all älpler and hunters to work better in terms of TB fights: “Years ago a plan of twelve points was worked out, which includes various safety measures. Must think about this plan and better support each other.”
If it goes to Moosbrugger, higher shooting numbers must also contribute to the Red Deer and a change in the hunting law to finally get the TB problem under control. “This is urgently necessary, because in the TB core areas we no longer talk about hunting, but about disease control areas. Here the hunters simply have to increase the number of murders!”
“With their patience, the farmers are at the end”
But even with a higher final number, the concern about whether the earlier measures in terms of TB fights are sufficient: “It is not recognizable. The farmers are not recognizable with their patience,” reports the President of the Agriculture. He therefore argues that the authorities can take measures, even without the permission of landowners or hunting tenants, including the controversial use of regulatory and withdrawal ports. “The farmers are not asked if they like the approach of the authorities. If their cattle are infected, the stable must be cleaned up!”
Of course, Moosbrugger is aware that the use of regulatory and withdrawal gates (comment: this means that the Rode deer is driven together and then shot) a rather barbaric act- “but to be honest, I prefer an end with horror then no end and permanent pain.”
Adjustment of the “Reimoser concept”
And last but not least, the parliamentary president would like new parameters for the Red Deer heals to be developed during the revision of hunting legislation. “About 30 years ago, a wild biologist named Friedrich Reinoser created a very good concept, so that the Red Deer can be kept in certain zones. In the meantime, much has changed, and that is why this concept should be adjusted on some points. One thing to clarify: I am for a Red Deer management – but it takes on clear rules.”
