On Easter weekend in 2025 there were a total of 373 traffic accidents with personal injury – an increase of 95 cases or 34.2 percent compared to the previous year (278 accidents). 450 people were injured, which is 121 and 36.8 percent more than at Easter 2024 (329 injuries). Five people died in road traffic during the Holy Week.
In the Holy Week, including Easter Monday, five people in traffic were fatal: a car driver, a motorcycle stand, a tractor driver, a bicycle driver and a car.
In three cases, there were presumed causes of the accident carelessness or distraction and in one case priority and not -adapted speed. Four fatal accidents were some accidents.
Lowest number of victims 2013
The least number of victims so far since the introduction of the statistics in the Federal Ministry of the Interior in 1968 was registered with A Road Dead (2013 and 2023). For comparison, 39 deaths had to be complained during the Easter weekend in 1976 in the worst year. In 2004, 17 people died in traffic.
- During the increased traffic control by the police, 53,348 motor vehicle drivers were criticized for exceeding the maximum permissible speed (2024: 53,180), a slight increase of 0.3 percent.
- Against 355 vehicle drivers, an increase was submitted for drunkenness to the wheel (2024: 303), an increase of 17.2 percent.
- 86 drug drivers had to be pulled out of traffic by the police, about 13.2 percent more than in the previous year (76).
- The driver’s license or the moped card was temporarily taken on the Easter weekend (2024: 258) during the Easter weekend.
- At Easter, five motor vehicles were temporarily confiscated by the federal police due to extreme speed overruns (2024: 4).
- Two people were killed on national roads, each on a highway, on a state road B and on a municipal road.
2024 already 85 road deaths
From January 1 to April 21, 2025, there were temporarily 85 road deaths in the Austrian road network. In the comparison period 2024 it was 72, 2023 84, 2022 106, 2021 64 and 2020 89.
There were no dead in Vienna during the weekend, but there were 33 traffic accidents, with a total of 49 people who were injured.
