After the tragic accident in Gmünd (Lower Austria), in which two toddlers (1 and 5 years old) died on Saturday, “Brand” could be given shortly after 1 p.m. Head of operations and fire brigade commander Mattias Böhm talks about an “obligation that is certainly no longer forgotten”.
Fire -down controls and the mental support of the emergency services are still the focus. “It is important that you come back to talk,” said Böhm. The tragedy passed on Saturday shortly before noon in a house with several parties.
More than 100 emergency services have moved
After several emergency calls, more than 100 emergency services of the fire brigade, salvation and the police arrived within a few minutes. Breathing protection teams immediately started fighting and searching for missing people. Two small children could be recovered from the burning apartment, but all attempts for resuscitation failed – all help came too late for the two.
Other residents were seriously injured
The mother was also seriously injured and flown to the hospital by a rescue helicopter. Due to the massive smoke development, various other residents of the house had to be saved. Five people were taken to the hospital with suspicion of flue gas poisoning.
Psychological crisis teams were also on site to support. All other residents were housed in emergency quarters. The building remains closed at least until Monday. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
