In one fell swoop for a network of pedocriminals, dozens of men were arrested in France. As the police confirmed, 55 men have been held since Monday. They are accused of obsessing, distributing and viewing children under the age of ten.
According to French media reports, there is also a clergyman among the arrested. The men must be between 25 and 75, the Omroep France Info reported that some of them should have children themselves. The suspects would have communicated through the Telegram Messenger Service.
Researchers: Telegram popular with Pedocriminals
The starting point of the ten -month investigation was the arrest of various sex offenders last summer. The accused had passed and shared photos of it on Telegram. “Telegram is still the online service that pedocriminals prefer to use,” said researcher Quentin Bevan. Progress has been made in working with the platform since the founder of Telegram Pawel Durow was arrested in France last year. But Telegram “only fulfills his legal obligations,” he emphasized.
Justice is investigating Telegram -founder Durow
In the meantime, it was announced that the French judiciary Durow forbade a business trip to the United States. Durow has been investigated in France since August. The French judiciary accuses, among other things, the 40-year billionaire not to take enough against the spread of criminal and extremist content on telegram.
The Durow, which comes from Russia, was briefly arrested in France, but was released under certain circumstances. So he had to deposit a down payment of five million euros and appeared to the police twice a week. In March, however, he was allowed to go to Dubai.
Durow had admitted in December that he had become aware of the seriousness of the allegations. He ensured that the moderation of the platform, which has an estimated 950 million users worldwide, was guaranteed. After his arrest, Moscow had warned about “political persecution”. Durow, however, conflicted with the Russian side.
