The accident happened around 8.45 pm on Sunday when the Hungarian was driving on the Westautobahn from Vienna towards Salzburg. Since the accident wreckage had a German registration number, it is believed that the Hungarian lived in Germany and was on his way home. In the municipality of Thalgau, just behind the state border of Upper Austria and Salzburg, the 38-year-old left the lane with his Toyota on the right. The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest on its roof after about 100 meters.

Died of his serious injuries
A large contingent of rescuers quickly arrived, including fire brigades from Upper Austria, Mondsee and Guggenberg. The ambulance helicopter landed on the blocked Westautobahn. But the 38-year-old suffered such serious injuries that he died at the scene of the accident.

The Salzburglaan was closed for an hour during the rescue work and was only drivable in one lane. Due to the busy travel traffic, a mile-long traffic jam quickly developed.
