Loiu Airport will open its first regular transoceanical connection on 2 June. United Airlines will operate the direct route with New York-Newark until 23 September, with the intention of consolidating all year round.
From this Saturday, Bilbao connects New York thanks to a new direct route that is managed by United Airlines, the fourth largest airline in the world per volume of passengers. The link, the first regular transoceanical connection in the history of Loiu Airport, will be available during the summer season, with three weekly flights until 23 September.
The American company will use Boeing 757-200 aircraft, with capacity for 176 passengers, to cover the route between Loiu and Newark in New Jersey.
The departure from Bilbao to New York leave on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 12.30 from Loiu Airport and arrive in Newark at 3 p.m. (local time). Fights from New York to Bilbao leave Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 9.15 pm. From Newark and Land in Bilbao at 10:45 am the next day.
That is why on Saturday in the case of this first flight at 9.15 pm New York from New York will take off. And will arrive in Bilbao on Sunday at 10:45 am. On Sunday the flight departs from Bilbao at 12.30 and arrives in New York at 3 p.m. (local time).
The prediction of United Airlines is to transport approximately 17,600 passengers during this first summer of operations. From the airline and the Basque institutions trust that this new route will remain after September 2025 and ultimately consolidates itself as a permanent connection.
Although there were specific charter flights to America in the past, this is the first time that Bilbao airport will have a direct, regular and commercial service with the United States, which marks a milestone in the internationalization of the Biscay infrastructure.
