On Tuesday, the EU parliament accepted a draft law with an overwhelming majority that should make it possible to act more effectively against sexual abuse of children on the internet.
The EU-wide definitions of criminal offenses in this context must keep pace with technological developments and in the future also refer to Deepfakes and live streaming. Abuse and contact for this must be pursued online and realistic as criminal law.
The maximum fine for various crimes such as the possession and distribution of representations of sexual child abuse or offering consideration for actions must be set up. At the same time, no restriction periods may apply to display these actions and compensation claims.
Before negotiations on the EU parliament and of the Council
The EU parliament calls for a new definition of the term ‘permission’, especially for children who have reached the age of sexual maturity. In the mutual agreement, sexual acts under the same age should not be punishable – except for dependence or abuse of trust. On the other hand, a criminal difficulty should be considered if you spend the same age.
The negotiations of the Parliament and the Council on the final new form of the law should start on 23 June. As early as 2023, the EU parliament deposited its attitude for a separate regulation towards the fight against representations of children on the internet and has since been waiting for an agreement with the council.
