A fire broke out at the Böheimkirchen train station near St. Pölten on an open track on a train set on Tuesday afternoon. A BB coordinator had the flames under control using seven fire extinguishers until emergency services arrived. The man is believed to have inhaled smoke and was treated by paramedics. There were no other injuries.
The train set, consisting of several wagons, ran without passengers on the so-called old western railway towards Vienna around 3.30 pm. “At Böheimkirchen station, the driver of an oncoming train suddenly noticed flames from the first wagon. He immediately made an internal emergency call, which led to an extensive deployment of the fire brigade a few minutes later,” reported Franz Resperger of the provincial command. from Lower Austria.
Fire brigade praises ‘courageous effort’
Meanwhile, the coordinator got to work with the fire extinguishers. Without the “courageous effort”, the flames “probably would have spread to the other cars,” Resperger said in a broadcast.
About 50 members of three fire brigades eventually extinguished the fire. The flames broke out near the brakes. The old Westbahn line was partially closed during the extinguishing work.
