Ibiza video – Drug investigations against Hessenthaler stopped

Date:

Vienna’s public prosecutor has dropped a new drug case against Julian Hessenthaler, the suspected mastermind behind the Ibiza video. At the end of March, Hessenthaler was already sentenced to three and a half years in prison for, among other things, drug offences. The procedure for the Ibiza video itself has already been stopped.

In the first trial, Hessenthaler was found guilty of trafficking cocaine and accepting, passing on or possessing false or forged specially protected documents and forgery. Then another anonymous report was received by the authorities. The recruitment has since taken place “because there is no real reason for further prosecution,” the authorities said. The parquet confirmed the setting.

Hessenthaler had made the video in which former FPÖ boss and vice-chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache and FPÖ club president Johann Gudenus are talking to an alleged oligarch niece in a villa in Ibiza. After the recordings were published in May 2019, not only did Strache and Gudenus lose office, but the turquoise-blue coalition also broke. The result was a new election.
