The consumer price index (CPI) fell by two-tenths in July compared to the previous month, but has risen by six-tenths in the annual rate, until the 10.8%the highest level since September 1984, according to advanced data released this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The July data surpasses the peak reached in June last year when the CPI stood at 10.2%, the highest level since 1985.
According to the INE, the year-over-year increase in CPI to 10.8% is mainly due to the rise in the prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks and electricity.
