Unmasked, a 57-year-old man from Styria took a toy revolver from a bank branch in Feldbach on Monday morning and demanded money. He then took the loot to safety – but directly to the police. His motive is influential.
The man, who hails from Feldbach in the Southeastern Styria district, went unmasked into a bank branch in Feldbach’s main square around 11:45 a.m. and then waited another ten minutes before taking action.
At a time that suited him, he went to the cash register, behind which a 20-year-old bank employee was working. Still unmasked, the culprit pulled out a deceptively real-looking toy revolver and forced the bank employee to hand over cash, which he did. The suspect put the stolen money in a plastic bag he had brought with him. After that, he left the bank and headed for his getaway car – a bicycle.
From the bank straight to the police
The man drove straight to the nearest police station and told officers there that he had just robbed a bank. As evidence, he handed over the loot and toy revolver used in the crime to the police officers.
Problems with landlords as a motive
The man was subsequently arrested on the spot by the police and the National Criminal Investigation Department was subsequently informed. The perpetrator who became known by order of the public prosecutor of Graz was admitted to the prison of Graz-Jakomini. The man stated that his motive for the crime was personal problems: he was in danger of losing his home, hence the robbery.
