Interview with the director Arantxa Tapia on August 2, 2022 in Euskadi Irratia

Date:

According to the Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque government, the measures to deal with the energy emergency must be long-term and effective. Tapia has indicated that it is preferable to change the windows to lower the thermostat, or to install LEDs.

The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Government, Arantxa Tapiadescribed the energy saving measures announced yesterday by the Spanish government as “effective” and has stressed that Euskadi “has his own plan” in light of this. “Let’s focus on responsibility, not effective measures.”

The Basque minister appreciates the package of measures announced yesterday by the central executive, in an interview awarded to Euskadi Irratia’s “Faktoria” program. As he explained, the Basque government, Eudel and the regional institutions agreed on a series of measures last Friday and announced that they will come into force on September 1 as an instruction. Tapia has maintained that Euskadi “has gone further” than Spain, “in line with what Europe asks of us”. The key, he says, is to take “long-term, not punctual” measures. He has cited, among other things, that at the lighting level, it is more effective to install LEDs, “or instead of changing the thermostat, change the windows.”

Regarding the punitive nature of the Spanish law, Tapia reiterated that Basque society is “old enough to act responsibly”, and believes that, apart from sanctions, “I believe in responsibility”.
