This is certainly not how a newlywed German couple, excited about the Alps, envisioned their honeymoon on the Dachstein: instead of conquering the summit, there was a rescue helicopter.
The newlywed German couple, aged 34 and 28, wanted to take a mountain trip on the Dachstein during their honeymoon. The route, which the two had previously planned with digital maps, led them on Tuesday from the mountain station of the Dachsteinsüdwandbahn over the glacier to the Steiner Scharte on the Gosaugletscher and from there via the Windlucke or Westgrat to the top of the Hoher Dachstein back to the mountain station. .
They dared not go any further
In the area of the wind hole at an altitude of about 2737 m, the two deviated from their planned route and did not dare to continue their way. The 34-year-old and 28-year-old could neither move forward nor backward, so they called the emergency call shortly after 2 p.m. The mountain rescue service and an Alpine police officer were then alerted, who in turn notified the police helicopter.
Fog bank raised
Because a fog bank had already gathered, it was not possible for the police helicopter to pick up the couple immediately. So two mountain rescuers were flown up the mountain, leading the two on a rope out of the fog. Finally, the police helicopter was able to pick up everyone involved and take them to the valley.
