Felipe VI has sent a message of support to the million Spanish family businesses, from large companies to small businesses, for their ability to directly feel the realities of the economy and also for their ability to withstand complex situations. He did so during the opening session of the XXV Congress of the Family Business Institute, the institution chaired by the Basque businessman Andrés Sendagorta, also president of Sener Engineering, which will be held this week in Cáceres.

The monarch has also referred to the “way of understanding business from values ​​that are transferred over time” by family businesses, a group he has defined as “an intangible asset of immense importance,” around people and projects “that the ambition to do better and better”.

The president of the Family Business Institute, Andrés Sendagorta, avoided any critical reference to government policy in his inaugural address, although he is expected to mainly refer to tax news at the end of the meeting, which will take place tomorrow. Sendagorta emphasized the value of family businesses in Spain to ensure that “when they do well, the Spanish economy does well”.

Sendagorta recalls the weight of this sector in the Spanish GDP as a whole -more than 25%-, with an important role in job creation. The Basque businessman has also defended the importance of “the existence of large family businesses,” because of the traction they have on the rest of the economic fabric, “because it’s not just small businesses that are good,” he said.

The president of the IEF also pointed to the significant efforts of the companies belonging to this organization – he was referring to the one hundred large companies of the Institute – which contribute 3,000 million euros annually to the public treasury through corporate tax and 5,200 additional millions. as contributions to social security.
