The quarterly program of scientific thought and culture Cartagena Piensa, in its 19th edition, kicked off yesterday with an exhibition in the Carlos Gallego del Luzzy Room, entitled “Science, Exile and Democracy”. The programming for this quarter revolves around proposals from, among others, AEFEREN, responsible for the conferences ‘An education for the 21st century. Perspectives from the Sciences and the Arts’, reaching its IX edition. There will also be a conference ‘Here we just want to be human’, organized by the Círculo de Silencio de Cartagena and various NGOs and associations, focusing on the phenomenon of migration.

The program includes events related to democratic memory, created through collaboration with the Cartagena Historical Memory Association, which is responsible for two conferences. The first devoted to science under Francoism, by Antonio Francisco Canales, a professor at Complutense University. And the second, dedicated to the legacy of Ramón y Cajal and neuroscience in democracy, by the researcher and professor at Miguel Hernández Salvador Martínez University.

Energy transition, journalistic ethics, feminism, art or history are areas that are covered in the programming. This Thursday there will be an online talk by engineer and researcher Alicia Valero, who will talk about the energy transition. He will be followed by guests such as Danish teacher, engineer and expert Ole Thorson, who will give a lecture at the Museum of the Roman Theater on February 10 on ‘The most democratic and healthy use of the street space’.

The Professor of Journalism at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​​​Charo Lacalle, will give a lecture in the Luzzy Library on February 23. UMU professor Ignacio Martín Lerma presents his book ‘Prehistory in the backpack. Travel Diary of a Neanderthal,” on March 15 at the Museum of the Roman Theater.

Visual therapist Eva Mesa will give a lecture on March 20 on ‘Participating Artistic Practices for Building More Inclusive Communities’; and also the philosopher, teacher and feminist Laura Llevadot will present ‘My wound existed for me’ on March 23 in the library of the Luzzy. Feminism and Critique of Sexual Difference’.

New are the ‘Philosophical Coffees of Ambigú’, which will be held in the ambigú of the Nuevo Teatro Circo by the Sociedad de Filosofía de la Región de Murcia. They propose two open debates around questions such as ‘Are my decisions free?’, on February 20, or ‘Do we really want to be immortal?’, on March 27.

On the program is a new edition of the Philosophy workshops for the youngest, with the two intercultural centers for the minor of the Social Services; the essay reading club in collaboration with the municipal libraries; the ‘Cafés con ciencia y pensamiento’, which will host debates on the political participation of young people, with the participation of Alejandro Fernández del Río, in collaboration with Beers & Politics; theses in three minutes with the UPCT; the new masculinity, with Yolanda González, in collaboration with the College of Psychology; or the presentation of the feminist magazine La Madeja, with one of the editors, Irene Pardo.

In addition, there is collaboration with the Carmen Conde Collective, which presents the recent works of the Pedro Costa Morata National Environmental Award, or a new session of the School of Free Thought, organized by various NGOs working on disability.

Together with Rascasa and the Popular University, with the aim of reaching the neighborhoods and municipalities, several tours will be given around the cultural heritage of Los Mateos.

“Cartagena Piensa is much more than a series of conferences and book launches, it is a polyhedral project that seeks to test all cultural forms to promote knowledge, debate and reflection,” said council members Carlos Piñana and David Noguera.
