“Puffmutter” posting – SPÖ mandatary is a candidate despite the verbal scandal

Date:

It’s a pull out of withdrawal: Klaus Bergmaier is back in action for the SPÖ a few months after his “brothel” position, the “Krone” reported. After his verbal slippage caused uproar and criticism, he did not resign from the city council in Krems, Lower Austria, until March 1.

It was a posting with consequences: After Bergmaier described ÖVP state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner on Facebook as “the madam of the whores of the rich”, he voluntarily withdrew from the city council on March 1. His apology and his quick resignation suggested a permanent retirement from politics – but wrong thought!

Less than six months later, the Kremser is again running as a candidate for the SPÖ in the municipal elections on 4 September. This was only announced shortly before the elections, because the SPÖ initially only announced the top 30 candidates, but Bergmaier can be found in 37th place.

“I was introduced by the section and at that point I gave up my mandate, but not my beliefs and party membership,” explains the new old comrade. Although he himself considers 37th place on the list “not very promising”, he is also “not just pro forma” on the list.

The ÖVP meanwhile shoots at SPÖ city boss Reinhard Resch. “He shows two faces: condemn outwardly and promote internally”, is criticized.
