The Aranzadi Science Society excavated remains in Jaca (Huesca) that may have come from Pedro Asua ZubiaurRepublican gunman from Galdakao (Bizkaia) shot during the Civil War in 1938.
Aranzadi had been working since Thursday at the cemetery of Jaqués, where there is a communal grave in which the remains of Pedro Asua can be found.
They would have come to this conclusion after examining Joshua Larreathe victim’s great-nephew, the work of the Republican Circle of Jaca and local gravediggers, as well as for the historian’s work Other Aperribaicontracted by the Galdakao City Council.
Jaca City Council has authorized the excavation following a December 2021 meeting by the Mayor of Galdakao, Inigo Hernandoand that of Jaca, Juan Manuel Ramonin which Aperribai and Larrea also participated.
To confirm that the found remains belong to Asua, Aranzadi technicians will compare a sample with those of close relatives and, if the tests show they are from Asua, they will be transferred to the Galdakao cemetery.
His grandnephew thinks it this way it would “close the circle poetically”as the land of the Elexalde Cemetery belonged to his family, Asua would return to the land he would have inherited from his parents as an only child.
