The corruption investigation committee ÖVP again discussed the financing of corona on Wednesday. Two employees of Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws), who are responsible for processing the NPO funding, ie the money paid out to non-profit organizations, have been invited. The day of the commission was overshadowed by the confession of the ex-ÖBAG boss and short confidant Thomas Schmid at the Economic and Corruption Prosecution Service (WKStA).
The faction leaders also admitted in their statements that the research day seemed out of place given the latest developments or as if it came from a parallel universe. And the interrogation of the aws department head did not bring any new insights.
Reclaiming Tyrolean Young Farmers
The aws employee essentially confirmed the statements of the officials of the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sports (BMKÖS) who had already been invited to this complex. To date, 18.4 million have been recovered from 2,140 beneficiaries, which is approximately 2.5 percent of the total volume. Including those to the Tyrolean young farmers who have to repay 800,000 euros in Corona aid received because the ministry assigns them to the Tiroler Boerenbond, a sub-organization of the ÖVP Tyrol.
The deadline for the young Tyrolean farmers has recently passed, according to the aws employee. But there was a desire to postpone it. In principle, the period after the recovery letter lasts four weeks, then two reminders are sent before the cause is transferred to the Finanzprokuratur. However, the investigation of the Upper Austrian Seniors Association is still ongoing.
NEOS got things rolling
The reason for the in-depth investigations at the Seniors’ Association or the Tyrolean Young Farmers’ Association was a parliamentary request from NEOS. However, the legal investigation was not carried out by the aws, but by the BMKÖS, as the content of the directive does not fall within the area of responsibility of the aws.
The aws employees emphasized that they did not notice any influence on the test procedure. All applicants were checked according to the same procedure. No one has exerted influence or pressure on the claims for compensation.
