Talk to Katia Wagner – ÖVP: “We are well prepared for tomorrow!”

Date:

Is the ÖVP nervous about tomorrow’s interrogation of the fallen Treasury Secretary General Thomas Schmid? “No, I’m very relaxed,” says agent Andreas Hanger. The People’s Party is well prepared for the investigation. It is wrong to “paint the ÖVP as corrupt in general,” he clarified in a conversation with Katia Wagner. From today’s perspective, Thomas Schmid is also a “liar” for him…

For Andreas Hanger (ÖVP), it is clear that the allegations against Wolfgang Sobotka “just aren’t true”. He doesn’t want to “hang a wall” under any circumstances, but if the ÖVP were to do a “tabula rasa” based on the allegations, that would be bias. “It is rude to say that Sobotka has intervened,” he said.

Greens had no idea what was happening in the ÖVP…
Green MEP Nina Tomaselli is relaxed about tomorrow’s investigation. She is happy that her party put Sebastian Kurz “in the window” last year, which ultimately led to his resignation. Tomaselli would have had no idea of the events Thomas Schmid described during his interrogation: “You have to come up with this idea first, that you want to expand your power like this,” she clarifies.

Hafenecker (FPÖ): “We had quick consequences after Ibiza!”
Christian Hafenecker (FPÖ) does not understand why the Greens did not pull the “emergency brake” for a long time. For him, the entire government is “unable to act”, meaning the Greens “can do whatever they want with the ÖVP”. “The tail wags the dog!” confirms Hafenecker. For him, the freedom fighters after Ibiza showed how to do it: “We had quick consequences!”.

Wish investigations would not be interrupted by interrogation
Christoph Matznetter (SPÖ) is unimpressed by the fact that Thomas Schmid describes the SPÖ as the “inventor of the leg scraper tool”. The reprehensible for him is the “indirect payment” for the surveys of the Ministry of Finance. After the BAWAG scandal, the Social Democrats also campaigned for “complete clarification”. He wishes the same from the ÖVP, and that they will not hinder the investigations through tomorrow’s poll.

There are no more open questions for NEOS
The NEOS rejected an extension of the U-committee in advance. “There are no more open questions, you now have to drain the swamps,” explains Nikolaus Scherak (NEOS). He fears that “they will dig deeper and deeper” and “find the same thing every time”. The system that the ÖVP, but also the SPÖ and FPÖ are said to have set up, is only about “who I know and not what I can do”, according to Scherak.

Should higher moral standards apply to politicians?
All participants in the discussion agreed that they are looking forward to tomorrow’s research with great enthusiasm. In the panel discussion with Katia Wagner there was also consensus about the moral responsibility of politicians. The turquoise Andreas Hanger makes it clear: “Yes, there are higher moral standards for politics”.

Everything about the interrogation of Thomas Schmid in the U-committee can be found tomorrow from 8.30 am on krone.tv and the next issue of Katia Wagner – der Talk See you next Wednesday at 8:15 PM on krone.tv! Discuss and vote!
