“It makes sense” – Vienna: Masks for public transport will probably stay all winter

Date:

“It makes sense to maintain certain measures in the colder months of the year,” says Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig about the current corona measures in Vienna. These will probably apply in the federal capital for a long time to come, explains Ludwig.

The situation in the hospitals is still very demanding, he emphasizes in an interview with the APA. You must pay attention to vulnerable groups – for example in hospitals or care institutions. PCR testing and an obligation to wear FFP2 for visitors are still mandatory there. People who have tested positive for the corona virus are not allowed to enter. There will only be a limited number of visitors to the hospitals.

Ludwig praises the Viennese’s discipline
The FFP2 face mask is also mandatory in public transport. This provides a certain protection against contagion, emphasized the SPÖ mayor – who praised the Viennese in this regard: “I often use public transport and I must say that the discipline is still very high, contrary to what is claimed .”

The city boss assumes that the rules will apply until the end of winter. Because in the cold season, the situation is unlikely to improve significantly. In any case, he continues to consult with his team of experts, “who have guided me well through the crisis so far”.

The current pandemic development
In fact, the number of infections in Austria has been rising again for two weeks. The seven-day incidence rose to 334.7 cases per 100,000 population. A week ago it was 299.4, two weeks ago it was 275.4. There are currently 42,422 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, 180 fewer than the day before. A week ago, however, it was significantly less at 36,814.
