An analysis by the Association of Victims of Terrorism suggests that these 44 people on the EH Bildu lists have met their disqualifications and therefore there is no reason not to qualify.
The Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) has released the verdicts of the 44 EH Bildu candidates for the 28 million elections who have convictions for their relationship with ETA, seven of them with blood crimes for murdersand points out that they have all served their disqualification sentences and therefore there are no grounds for ineligibility.
The analysis of the judgments shows that the majority of those sentenced with a special disqualification belong to the organizations that were considered by the national court to be part of the ETA environment, although they have already fulfilled them all. This is the case of María Teresa Díaz de Heredia, who was a leader of Pro-Amnesty Managers; Gorka Bertolaza, from SEGI; Hasier Arraiz or Egoitz Apaolaza, among those convicted of being part of Batasuna; or María Teresa Toda Iglesia, deputy director of EGIN, among others.
“Although it disappoints us“They can submit these candidacies,” emphasizes AVT lawyer Carmen Ladrón de Guevara in an interview in Cope in which she analyzed that it was not possible to avoid the presence of ETA members on the 28M lists by resorting to to the Party Law or the Electoral Law.
The AVT blames the government, as this legislature with the approach policy for ETA prisonersis to keep EH Bildu as “preferred partner” and therefore “govern with a party that has assassins on its lists”.
Analysis of 26 sentences
The AVT document, consulted by Europa Press, analyzes 26 judgments – one of which was an acquittal – in which either no disqualification was imposed or has already been fulfilled. Three other sentences were imposed by French courts, without this sentence also being determined.
There is also a case where there is no criminal record and a further 14 where it has not been possible to locate the court ruling, although this victims’ association believes it is “highly unlikely” that the disqualification will last as they are low sentences.
This is evident from the analysis of the sentences most of those sentenced with special disqualification They belong to the organizations mentioned above, although they have already fulfilled them.
