Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has offered his resignation. This was announced on Wednesday by the speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk. The day before, several ministers in Kiev had already submitted their resignations.
The three ministers initially announced are Olexander Kamyshin, responsible for the arms industry, as well as Denys Maljuska (Justice) and Ruslan Strilez (Environment).
The head of the State Property Fund, Vitaly Koval, who is responsible for privatizations, also wants to resign. Later, the resignation of deputy heads of government Olha Stefanishyna and Iryna Wereshchuk was also announced. Vereshchuk is responsible for refugee issues, Stefanishyna for the European integration of Ukraine. According to reports, she should be given another position in the government.
New appointments at more than half of the ministries
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced changes to the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, citing the need to “strengthen” parts of the government. In an address to the nation, the president said he expected “a slightly different emphasis in certain areas of our foreign and domestic policy.” According to the parliamentary group leader of the presidential Servant of the People party, David Arachamija, new appointments will be made in more than half of all ministries. The final list will be announced at the group meeting on Wednesday.
Ukraine has been fighting off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years. The government led by Denys Schmyhal has been in power since March 2020.
