Junts withdraws from investiture block again and strikes down law to limit temporary rentals

Date:

The Catalan group was expected to abstain from processing a bill by Sumar to limit the renting of temporary housing and per room to six months. The Junts, which have united their votes on the right, say the rule “invades the powers of Catalonia”.

Together has returned to to stand out of the investiture block (formed by the groups supporting the Sánchez government) and eventually joined PP, Vox and UPN to reject in the plenary session of Congress the authorization for processing of Sumar’s bill to amend the urban rental law and limit seasonal rentals and rooms.

The proposed law limit to six months the rent of temporary housing and per room. At the request of the tenants’ association they wanted that put on the brakes to owners who use the temporary rental formula, instead of regular rental, to circumvent the obligations under the Housing Act.

Although the Catalans had announced that they would abstain from voting, it eventually happened three minutes before the voteannounced that they would take a position against, so the vote was left with 172 votes in favour of PSOE, Sumar, ERC, Bildu, PNV, Podemos, BNG, Canarian Coalition and José Luis Ábalos, former Socialist deputy now integrated into the Mixed Group; and 178 votes against.

In a message on the social network, Central already indicated that this is, in his words, a red line.

Both the pro-tenant groups and the tenants’ association have criticized Junts’ position. “We had an agreement with the parliamentary groups and the figures to put an end to abuses in the area of seasonal rentals. Junts called three minutes before the vote to announce that they were going to change the voting direction, contrary to what had been agreed,” he criticized Sumar’s spokesman in Congress, Íñigo Errejón.
