Subordination for women – zip with holes in the new National Council

Date:

The topic of gender equality can irritate many people. Our newly elected representatives in parliament prove that they still do not exist. There are gaps, especially in the ranks of the FPÖ and ÖVP.

Three examples from the ÖVP show how women must make way for men. The young Upper Austrian Alexandra Platzer relinquishes her mandate on the Welsh regional list. This goes to Laurenz Pöttinger, whose state mandate in turn goes to Manfred Hofinger.

This castling is of course about the Innviertel obtaining two mandates in the National Council. Without the change, the Hausruckviertel would have three and the Innviertel only one. This could of course have been done in such a way that it was not at the expense of a woman.

Virtually no chance
The young MP Johanna Jachs from the Mühlviertel was placed in such a way that she had virtually no chance of getting back into the National Council. In Lower Austria, Margit Göll again decided not to participate, so that the previous environmental spokesperson Johannes Schmuckenschlager could come in. At least Göll has a place in the Federal Council.

Before the elections, the FPÖ proudly pointed out the zip system first used by the Blues. Ultimately, only twelve of the 56 FPÖ positions were filled by women, as mainly men had been sent from the states.

36 percent women
The proportion of women currently totals 36 percent, with the Greens being the only ones able to achieve a 50:50 ratio. That of the ÖVP and SPÖ would be just over 40 percent, that of the NEOS would be 44 percent. After the formation of the government, there will be even more delays because ministerial positions need to be filled.
