Cheers broke out in large parts of Syria. Welcoming the fall of the Assad clan, which had brought so much suffering to the country for decades. There was also a spontaneous demonstration of joy by the Syrian community in front of the Vienna Opera. Everywhere there is talk of liberation, of hope, of a new, free Syria. Some even talk about free elections. They would be the first in the country’s history.
Does terror follow terror?
What is certain is that Syria is at a turning point in its history. What is by no means certain, however, is that 54 years of Assad terror will not soon be followed by new terror.
